Dammam and Al Khobar to Makkah: Private Car or Fly and Transfer

Quick answer

From Dammam or Al Khobar, Makkah is roughly 1,300 km by road through Riyadh — a full day's drive. Most families either fly to Jeddah or Madinah and book our airport pickup, or take a private car all the way with an overnight stop. Marhaba Haji can do either: the airport pickups have published per-vehicle rates, and the full road journey is quoted in writing for your date before you pay.

Fly or drive?

For most families the quickest choice is a flight from Dammam to Jeddah or Madinah, with our driver waiting at arrivals. Our Jeddah airport to Makkah and Madinah airport to hotel transfers have published rates per vehicle.

A private car all the way suits families with elderly parents who find airports hard, large families with a lot of luggage, or anyone who wants to travel on their own schedule. At this distance we plan an overnight stop or another safe arrangement for the driver, and include it in the written quote.

Ihram by road or by air

By road through Riyadh, you pass the Miqat of Qarn al-Manazil, at As-Sayl al-Kabir or at Wadi Muharram on the Al Hada road. By air to Jeddah, you enter Ihram before your flight crosses the Miqat, as the airline announces. Check our Miqat calculator and ask your scholar if you are unsure.
