Hotels in Makkah near Masjid al-Haram

Updated 26 October 2026

Quick answer

For most pilgrims the best place to stay in Makkah (also spelt Mecca) is within walking distance of Masjid al-Haram — around the Clock Tower and Ajyad on the south side, along Ibrahim Al Khalil Street to the south-west, or in the Jabal Omar towers to the west. Shuttle hotels further out, such as in Aziziyah, cost less but depend on the bus.

Our Makkah hotels: walking first, then shuttle

Distances are approximate, as recorded for each hotel. Walking hotels are listed nearest first, then hotels that rely on a shuttle. We are walking each route to a named gate; until a hotel shows its gate and walking time here, both are confirmed in your written quote, along with the price for your dates.

The main areas around the Haram

Clock Tower (Abraj Al-Bait): the towers directly on the Haram plaza on the south side, facing King Abdul Aziz Gate. The shortest walk in Makkah and the highest prices; at busy times the wait is for the lifts, not the walk.

Ajyad: the streets just behind and beside the Clock Tower. Many mid-range hotels within a short walk; some streets climb, so check the route for elderly pilgrims.

Ibrahim Al Khalil Street: a long street running south-west from the Haram, lined with hotels at a wide range of distances and prices. The same street name can mean a three-minute walk or a fifteen-minute one, so always ask for the walking time.

Jabal Omar: a newer development of hotel towers on the west side, with large international hotels close to the Haram.

Aziziyah and other outer areas: cheaper hotels several kilometres away that run a shuttle bus to the Haram. Good value for healthy, flexible pilgrims; harder for families who want all five prayers at the Haram.

Shuttle hotels: what to expect

A shuttle hotel's real distance is the bus. Shuttles usually run on a timetable, fill up before prayers, and are often paused or restricted around Friday prayer and peak periods, when roads near the Haram close.

Drop-off points can still be a walk from the mosque doors. Before booking, ask how often the shuttle runs, when the last one returns at night, what happens on Fridays, and whether boarding is step-free.

Clock Tower and 5-star hotels

We can quote the 5-star hotels of the Clock Tower and Jabal Omar, including Fairmont, Swissôtel, Pullman ZamZam, Mövenpick Hajar and Raffles. Availability depends on occupancy for your dates and is always confirmed in writing before you pay.

These hotels sit side by side, so the differences are tower position, how many lifts serve your floor, view rooms and room size — compare the exact room category, not just the hotel name.

Rooms for families and elderly pilgrims

Ask for the room you actually need: a family room or connecting rooms, twin beds or a double, and an extra bed for a child. These are confirmed per booking, not guaranteed by the hotel's name.

For elderly pilgrims, check that the route has no steep slope or long stairs, how many lifts serve the room floors, and how long they take just before prayers. Wheelchairs and electric carts are available for Tawaf and Sa'i; plan how you will reach them from the hotel.

A Kaaba view and a Haram view are different things, and both are usually requests unless confirmed. If a view matters, ask for the confirmed room category in writing.

Ramadan and peak dates

Hotels near the Haram cost far more in Ramadan, especially in the last ten nights, and around school holidays. Roads close and shuttles are restricted at peak times, so a walking hotel matters more on these dates. Book early and get the total price in writing.

Hotel-only booking for any passport

You can book a hotel on its own, whatever your nationality. We need each guest's full name exactly as on the passport and their nationality; passports and visas are shown to the hotel at check-in.

You get one written quote naming the hotel, room, dates, total price and free-cancellation date. Guests booking from outside India pay the total in full by card, and receive written confirmation and a hotel voucher in their name.

Get these in writing before you pay

  • The exact hotel name — not 'or similar'
  • Room type and beds: twin or double, family or connecting rooms
  • Whether a view room is requested or confirmed
  • Meals included, if any
  • Check-in and check-out dates and times
  • The total price for your dates, and its currency
  • The free-cancellation date and the charge after it
  • Step-free route and lift access, if anyone needs it
  • The shuttle timetable, including Fridays, if your hotel uses one
