Hotels in Madinah near Masjid an-Nabawi

Updated 26 October 2026

Quick answer

For most pilgrims the best place to stay in Madinah (also spelt Medina) is the Central Area, called Markaziya, which surrounds Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. Pick the side of the mosque you will use most — for the men's or women's prayer areas, Bab al-Salam on the west, or Jannat al-Baqi on the east — then choose by room type and price.

Central Area (Markaziya) or further out?

The Central Area is the ring of hotels around the mosque's open courtyards. Staying here means you can walk to every prayer, rest between prayers and avoid taxis — the main reason most families choose it.

Hotels a little further out usually cost less and can be quieter. The trade-off is a longer walk five times a day, which matters more in summer heat and for elderly pilgrims. Some offer a shuttle; ask how often it runs and whether it pauses around Friday prayer and busy times.

Prices in the Central Area rise sharply in Ramadan, especially the last ten nights, and around school holidays. Book early for those dates and get the price in writing.

Which side of the mosque suits you?

Masjid an-Nabawi has gates on every side, and the side your hotel faces decides your daily walk. Think about which part of the mosque your family will use most, not just the distance on paper.

Bab al-Salam (Gate 1) is on the west side. Many pilgrims enter there to send salam on the Prophet ﷺ, so hotels on the west and south-west suit families who plan to make that visit often.

Jannat al-Baqi, the historic cemetery, lies to the east. Women's prayer areas have their own entrances, which are signposted at the mosque; if the women in your family will pray there daily, ask us which hotels keep their walk shortest.

For the Rawdah, use the gate printed on your Nusuk permit. Gate assignments change, so we do not quote fixed Rawdah gate numbers.

Rooms for families and elderly pilgrims

Ask for the room you actually need: a family room or connecting rooms, twin beds or a double, and an extra bed for a child. These are confirmed per booking, not guaranteed by the hotel's name.

For elderly pilgrims, check that the route to the mosque has no steps or steep slopes, that lifts serve every floor, and how long lifts take at peak times just before prayers. A slightly further hotel with an easy route can be better than a closer one with stairs.

A view of the mosque is usually a request, not a guarantee. If it matters to you, ask for a confirmed view room in writing and expect to pay more.

Hotel-only booking for any passport

You can book a hotel on its own, whatever your nationality. We need each guest's full name exactly as on the passport and their nationality; passports and visas are shown to the hotel at check-in.

You get one written quote naming the hotel, room, dates, total price and free-cancellation date. Guests booking from outside India pay the total in full by card, and receive written confirmation and a hotel voucher in their name.
