My passport expires in less than six months — can I still apply for Umrah?

Asked by Anonymous pilgrim23 Oct 2026Umrah visa

In short

No — renew it first. An Umrah visa needs a passport valid for at least six months from your travel date, with blank pages. In India you can renew through Passport Seva; Tatkal is available if time is short.

The requirement: your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of travel and have blank pages for stamps.

What to do

  1. Renew before applying. A new passport has a new number, and the visa is tied to the passport it was issued on.
  2. Use Passport Seva (passportindia.gov.in) for a re-issue. If your dates are close, ask about Tatkal.
  3. Check names and dates on the new passport — spelling must match your flight tickets and visa application exactly.
  4. Don't travel on an old passport with a visa if you have since received a new one; use the passport the visa was issued on.

Also check: passports that are damaged, torn or water-stained can be refused — renew those too.

Next step: once you have the new passport, our visa service can apply for you.
