In short

As of October 2026, Saudi Arabia's published Umrah requirements set no upper age limit. Pilgrims over 65 must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or immunity under the Ministry of Health's Umrah rules, alongside the meningitis vaccine everyone needs.

Age and Umrah

  • The Saudi Ministry of Health's Umrah 1447H requirements don't set an upper age limit for Umrah.
  • Over 65: proof of COVID-19 vaccination or immunity is required (one updated 2025–26 dose, a completed primary series from 2021–24, or confirmed recovery in 2025).
  • Everyone: meningitis ACYW vaccine at least 10 days before arrival.

Hajj is different: for Haj 2027 the Haj Committee of India requires pilgrims aged 65 and above to travel with a companion.

Planning for an 82-year-old

  • A check-up with his doctor before booking, and a written summary of his conditions and medicines.
  • A hotel with a short, flat walk; wheelchairs for tawaf and sa'i.
  • Madinah first, to settle in; rest days between big efforts.
  • Someone in the group responsible for him at all times.
