How do we get from Jeddah airport to our hotel in Makkah?

We land at King Abdulaziz airport with two elderly parents and four suitcases.

In short

Two practical options: a pre-booked private car from King Abdulaziz International Airport straight to your hotel, or the Haramain train from the airport station to Makkah station (about 50 minutes) and then a taxi to the hotel. With elderly parents and heavy luggage, a private car is usually easier.

Option 1 — Private car (door to door)

  • The driver meets you at arrivals, loads the luggage and drops you near your hotel.
  • Best for families, elderly pilgrims, wheelchairs and late-night arrivals.
  • Roads near the Haram have restricted access, so the drop-off may be a short walk from the hotel door.

Option 2 — Haramain train + taxi

  • From the airport's train station to Makkah station takes about 50 minutes.
  • Then a taxi from Makkah station to your hotel.
  • Good for light travellers; more steps with heavy bags.

Option 3 — Bus

  • Cheapest, but slower and less convenient with luggage.

Before you land

  • If you're doing Umrah straight away, you'll already be in ihram — plan rest and water.
  • Have your hotel name and address in Arabic.
  • Keep medicines and passports in hand luggage.
