How do Indians apply for Hajj — through the Haj Committee or a private operator?

Asked by Anonymous pilgrim23 Oct 2026Hajj

In short

Indian pilgrims go either through the Haj Committee of India (most seats, chosen by a computerised draw where applications exceed the quota) or through private tour operators registered with the government. For Haj 2027 the seats are split 70:30 between the two.

Route 1 — Haj Committee of India (HCoI)

  • Apply online only, on the HCoI website or the Haj Suvidha app, during the window HCoI announces.
  • No fee is charged to apply. If selected, you pay Rs 1,52,300 for Haj 2027 (Advance Haj Amount Rs 1,50,000 + dues Rs 2,000 + non-refundable processing fee Rs 300), then later instalments.
  • Where applications exceed a state's quota, pilgrims are chosen by qurrah (computerised draw of lots), after priority categories.
  • Two-step medical screening applies.

Route 2 — Private tour operators

  • About 30% of India's seats go through registered private operators, usually at higher cost with more choice of hotels and services.
  • Check the operator is on the government's registered list before paying anything.

Seats for Haj 2027: split 70:30 (reported as 1,22,518 for HCoI and 52,507 for private operators).

Beware fraud: HCoI warns pilgrims not to pay any person or agency claiming to be affiliated with it.

Next step: see our Hajj package page or message us for the private route.
