Planning the last ten nights
The last ten nights are the heart of Ramadan for many people.
- Why they matter: surah al-Qadr (97) describes the Night of Decree as better than a thousand months, and a hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari (2017) says to seek it in the odd nights of the last ten. Another (Sahih al-Bukhari 2024) describes the Prophet ﷺ staying up those nights and waking his family.
- When they start: Islamic days begin at sunset, so the first of the last ten nights is the night that begins at sunset after the 20th fast.
- Clear the decks early: leave from work, Eid shopping, Eid clothes and food you can freeze, all before the 20th.
- Plan Zakat al-Fitr now, so it's paid before the Eid prayer (Abu Dawud 1609; World 6 explains it).
How you spend these nights is between you and Allah. This game never asks or scores it.
