A taste of this World
Before you fly: what's different in Ramadan
Umrah in Ramadan follows the same rites you learn in Umrah Ready. What changes is everything around them.
- Book early. Ramadan, and especially the last ten nights, is the busiest time of the Umrah year. Every Umrah needs its own booking (permit) on Nusuk. See current Ramadan Umrah packages for dates and hotels.
- Two calendars. Saudi Arabia and India may start Ramadan, and celebrate Eid, on different days. A trip that crosses both can change how many days you fast (Level 5 covers this).
- Medicines and time zones. Fasting and a new time zone shift your medicine times at the same moment. Make a plan with your doctor before you go, and carry medicines with their prescription, as the Saudi Food and Drug Authority asks.
- Menstruation. Tawaf isn't done during a period: a hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari (305) says a menstruating pilgrim does everything else a pilgrim does except tawaf until she is pure. Ramadan trips are often short, so allow spare days, and ask a scholar you trust about your options before you book.
