Quick Summary & Direct Answer

AlUla is about 3.5 hours by road from Madinah, or a short flight to AlUla airport (ULH). Pilgrims usually visit the Old Town, the oasis, Elephant Rock, Maraya and Harrat viewpoint. In Sahih al-Bukhari, the Prophet ﷺ told his companions not to enter the dwellings of those punished except while weeping, so many scholars advise avoiding Al-Hijr (Hegra / Mada'in Salih). Our AlUla plans leave Hegra out.

Essential Takeaways at a Glance
  • Do Umrah and Madinah first; AlUla fits well after Madinah.
  • Hegra (Al-Hijr) is the land of Thamud — our itineraries do not visit it.
  • The Old Town, oasis farms and rock formations are the usual highlights.
  • October to March is the most comfortable season.
  • Plan prayers around the drive; desert distances are long.
Pilgrim Pro Tip: Go at golden hour

Elephant Rock and the canyons look their best around Maghrib — pray at a nearby spot, then enjoy dinner in a majlis.

The hadith about Al-Hijr

When the Prophet ﷺ passed Al-Hijr on the way to Tabuk, he told his companions not to enter the dwellings of those who wronged themselves unless weeping, lest what befell them befall you (Sahih al-Bukhari). For this reason many scholars advise not visiting Hegra as a tourist site.

What pilgrims usually visit

AlUla Old Town and its mud-brick lanes, the date-palm oasis, Elephant Rock (Jabal AlFil), the Maraya mirrored building, Harrat viewpoint and desert drives with a majlis dinner.

Getting there

Most families drive from Madinah with a private car, or fly to AlUla (ULH). We can plan Madinah → AlUla → Riyadh or Jeddah so there is no backtracking. Marhaba Haji does not sell standalone visas. Umrah visa assistance is offered only as part of an eligible full package.
