Halal cruise from the UK: how British Muslim families sail alcohol-free

No halal cruise sails from a UK port, but AROYA's alcohol-free ship sails from Istanbul, about four hours' flight from London, until about September 2027. Flights, visas, the best months and how to plan it.

Quick answer

No fully halal cruise sails from a UK port. The closest is AROYA, Saudi Arabia's alcohol-free cruise line, which sails 6- to 8-night Mediterranean cruises from Istanbul and Alexandria from October 2026 to about September 2027. Istanbul is roughly a four-hour direct flight from London, Manchester or Birmingham, so a fly-cruise is the simplest way for British Muslim families to cruise halal.

Last checked 1 November 2026. Onboard details are as published by each cruise line and can change; we confirm them for your sailing before you pay.

Why not a cruise from Southampton?

Cruises from Southampton and other UK ports are run by mainstream lines. They serve alcohol throughout the ship, have bars by the pools and often a casino. Some offer halal meals on request, but you would be asking about every dish.

AROYA says its ship serves no alcohol at all, has no casino, serves halal-certified food in every restaurant and has prayer rooms and women-only pool and spa hours. That is a different holiday, and it is only a short flight away.

How a fly-cruise from the UK works

  • Fly direct to Istanbul from London, Manchester or Birmingham, about four hours.
  • Spend one or two nights in Istanbul: Eyüp Sultan, the Blue Mosque and the Süleymaniye are all close to the port.
  • Board AROYA at Galataport, Istanbul's cruise terminal, for a 6- to 8-night sailing along the Turkish coast and to Greece or Egypt.
  • Fly home from Istanbul, or from Alexandria on sailings that end in Egypt.

Visas for British passport holders

British citizens can currently visit Turkey visa-free for short stays. Greece is in the Schengen area, which British citizens visit visa-free for short stays, under the EU's newer entry checks. Egypt needs a visa, usually an e-visa or a visa on arrival. Rules change, so always confirm on the official government websites before you travel; we check the ports on your sailing when we send your plan.

Best time to go

Spring (April and May) and early autumn (September) are warm without the peak summer heat, and fit the Easter and October half-term holidays. July and August are hottest and busiest. Winter sailings are cooler, closer to UK weather in Istanbul, but quieter.
