Is travel insurance included with the Umrah visa, and what does it cover?

Asked by Anonymous pilgrim23 Oct 2026Saudi visa & travel rules

In short

Yes — mandatory Umrah health insurance is included with the Umrah visa. It covers emergencies inside Saudi Arabia, such as emergency treatment, hospital stays, emergency pregnancy care and urgent dialysis, up to a reported SAR 100,000. It doesn't replace travel insurance for cancellations or lost baggage.

What the included Umrah insurance covers (Council of Health Insurance policy)

  • Emergency medical examination, treatment and medicines.
  • Hospitalisation.
  • Emergency pregnancy and delivery.
  • Emergency dental care.
  • Urgent dialysis.
  • Urgent medical evacuation.
  • Injuries from traffic accidents.

A maximum benefit of SAR 100,000 has been reported.

What it doesn't do

  • It is for emergencies inside Saudi Arabia, not routine care or treatment in India.
  • It isn't trip-cancellation, lost-baggage or flight-delay cover of the kind a full travel insurance policy offers.

Our advice

  • Consider separate travel insurance from India if you want cover for cancellations, baggage or pre-existing conditions.
  • Carry a summary of medical conditions and medicines.
  • Save the insurer's details from your visa documents on your phone.
