Makkah & the Haram
Rehearse finding your way in and around the Grand Mosque: reaching it, its gates, prayer and good manners, crowds and where to get help.
The Grand Mosque is vast, and finding your way the first time can be overwhelming.
This World uses the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah's own guidance on getting there, moving through the mosque safely and asking for help.

Getting to the Haram
Most days in Makkah start with the journey from your hotel to the Grand Mosque.
- Makkah Buses cover a wide network of neighbourhoods and reach the central area. Many hotels also run shuttles: ask yours.
- Taxis and approved ride apps such as Uber and Careem are available.
- As you reach the courtyards you'll see entry and exit signs at the gates. Some gates have traffic lights showing how crowded they are.
- Choosing less crowded times makes everything calmer, for you and for others.
