Both are walking areas on the south side of Masjid al-Haram. Ajyad sits just behind and beside the Clock Tower, so many of its hotels are a short walk from the Haram plaza, but some of its streets climb uphill. Ibrahim Al Khalil Street runs south-west from the Haram for a long way, so its hotels range from a few minutes' walk to well over a kilometre, with some relying on a shuttle. Choose by the walking time and route of the exact hotel, not the area name.

- Both areas are on the south side of the Haram.
- Ajyad: many hotels close to the plaza; some streets are steep.
- Ibrahim Al Khalil: the same street name covers short walks and shuttle distances.
- Ibrahim Al Khalil has the wider spread of budget options.
- Always ask for the walking time and route of the exact hotel.
"On Ibrahim Al Khalil" can mean a three-minute walk or a fifteen-minute one. Ask how many minutes it takes to walk to the Haram at a normal pace, and whether the route has slopes or stairs.
Ajyad
Ajyad is the area directly behind and beside the Clock Tower complex. Its main draw is distance: many hotels are a short walk from the Haram plaza, so you can walk to every prayer and rest in between.
The catch is the terrain. Parts of Ajyad sit on rising ground, and a hotel that looks close on a map can involve a steep street or steps. For elderly pilgrims, check the route, not just the distance. Our hotels here include Snood Ajyad.
Ibrahim Al Khalil Street
Ibrahim Al Khalil Street runs south-west from the Haram, lined with hotels for a long stretch. The closest hotels are a short walk; further along, the walk gets long enough that some hotels run a shuttle instead.
That spread is why it suits budget trips: you can trade a longer walk for a lower price. Our hotels on or near the street include Maather Al Jiwaar (about 850 m), and Bilal Hotel and Al Zaer Al Akhyar, which are further out and use a shuttle.
How to choose between them
If you want the shortest walk and can manage some slope, look at Ajyad. If price matters more and you are happy to walk further or use a shuttle, Ibrahim Al Khalil gives more choice. For elders, pick the hotel with the easiest route in either area.
In Ramadan and school holidays, closer hotels in both areas fill early. Tell us your dates, family and budget and we will compare options with walking times.
