- Indian passport holders can enter the UAE on an e-visa, or on arrival if they hold a valid visa or residence permit from the US, UK, EU/Schengen area, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore or South Korea.
- Most Saudi Umrah visas are single-entry: leaving Saudi Arabia uses the visa, so Dubai goes before or after, never in the middle.
- Saudi Arabia's one-year multiple-entry Umrah visa allows re-entry, but each visit needs a new Nusuk package and Umrah permit, within 90 days in total.
- For most families, the simplest plan is Umrah first and Dubai after.
- Keep government fees, service fees, flights and hotel costs as separate lines when you compare.
In this Guide
Dubai is a short flight from Jeddah and Madinah, and many Indian pilgrims fly through it anyway. Adding a few days there, to see family, rest before the long flight home, or give children a break after the rites, is one of the most popular ways to extend an Umrah trip.
It works well when two things are planned properly: the right UAE visa, and the right order of travel for your Saudi visa. This guide covers both. Visa facts were checked on the date shown at the top of this page; rules change, so confirm them before you book.
Why Dubai pairs with Umrah
- It is on the way. Many flights between India and Saudi Arabia connect through Dubai, and direct flights between Dubai and Jeddah take roughly two and a half to three hours.
- Family. A large Indian community lives in the UAE. For many pilgrims, the stopover is a chance to visit relatives.
- Rest. A few calm days after the rites, before the journey home, are kind to older travellers and children.
- Separation of purposes. The Umrah stays focused on worship; the leisure days come before or after it.
Which visa, for Indian passport holders
Indian passport holders have two main routes into the UAE:
- A UAE e-visa, applied for before travel. India's Ministry of External Affairs lists the UAE among countries offering e-visas to Indian nationals.
- Visa on arrival, if you already hold a valid, unexpired visa or residence permit from the United States, the United Kingdom, the EU/Schengen area, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore or South Korea. Your passport must be valid for at least six months when you enter the UAE.
A few points to check before you rely on either route:
- Your exact documents. Visa-on-arrival eligibility depends on the type of visa or permit you hold and its validity. Check your case before you fly, not at the airport.
- Children and older parents need their own visas, even when travelling with you.
- Family in the UAE may be able to sponsor a visit visa for close relatives. Ask them to check with UAE immigration.
If you need the UAE visa prepared for you, our visa desk handles UAE e-visas and checks visa-on-arrival eligibility, with the government fee and our service fee shown separately.
Single-entry or multiple-entry — the sequencing rule
This is where stopovers go wrong. Before you plan the order of your trip, look at the entries field on your Saudi visa.
If your Umrah visa is single-entry (most Umrah visas are):
- Once you leave Saudi Arabia, that visa is used. You cannot fly to Dubai and come back on it.
- So the stopover goes before or after Saudi Arabia, never in the middle: India → Dubai → Saudi Arabia → India, or India → Saudi Arabia → Dubai → India.
- Remember that every night in Saudi Arabia must be booked through Nusuk Masar before the Umrah visa is issued, so fix your Saudi dates first.
If you hold Saudi Arabia's one-year multiple-entry Umrah visa (introduced in July 2026):
- You can leave and enter again within the 365 days, but re-entry is not automatic.
- For each visit you need a new approved service package through Nusuk and an Umrah permit in the Nusuk app before you arrive, with dates that match.
- The visa allows a combined total of up to 90 days across all visits, so days spent on earlier visits reduce what is left.
- It cannot be used for entry during the Hajj season.
If you hold a Saudi tourist eVisa (some Indian passport holders with US, UK or Schengen visas or a GCC residence permit qualify), it is multiple-entry, and Saudi Arabia allows Umrah on it outside the Hajj season. See our tourist eVisa guide.
For most families on a standard Umrah visa, the simplest plan is: Umrah first, Dubai after. The worship is complete, and the rest comes at the end.

How many days, where to stay
- Two to three days suits a rest stop or a short visit to family.
- Four to five days gives time for family and a few outings without rushing.
- Older parents often prefer the stopover after the Umrah, with a quiet hotel close to where family lives, rather than a busy sightseeing schedule.
- Check flight times. A late-night arrival from Jeddah followed by an early sightseeing day is exhausting. Leave the first day free.
- Stay near family or near the metro. Dubai is large, and travel time between areas adds up.
If your Dubai flight connects onward to India, check whether you are on one ticket or separate tickets. On separate tickets, allow generous time between flights in case of delays.
Costs, honestly split
A Dubai stopover adds three kinds of cost. Keep them separate so you can see exactly what you are paying for:
- UAE visa costs. A government fee set by the UAE authorities, and a service fee if someone prepares the visa for you. These should always appear as separate lines.
- Flights. Adding Dubai can cost very little if you were connecting there anyway, or noticeably more if it means changing your route. Compare both options.
- Hotel and daily costs. These depend on the area, the season and whether you stay with family.
A Dubai stopover never changes the cost of the Saudi Umrah visa itself, but it can change your flights, so plan the whole route before you book.
